Director's Concept--Design Team Meeting

For your summative on The Glass Menagerie you must create a presentation for meeting with your design team for the first time.

Goal: In this presentation, you must present a well-thought out director's concept with your vision of the show. You will present your initial design thoughts and ideas, all of which you should be able to justify for your designers.

You must identify the following for your designer:
  • What is your DIRECTOR'S CONCEPT and how does it address your intention with the piece and the guiding image(s) for the piece?
  • Explain the design choices you have made and justify how they support your director's concept.
    • What is the role of the design elements (including color, lines, shapes and/or symbols) in your piece?
      • What color scheme do you foresee?
      • What motifs do you see being repeated throughout?
    • What are the implications of your vision on the different areas of design:
      • Set
      • Costumes , Make-Up, Hair
      • Lights / Projections
      • Sound / Music
      • Props
      • Publicity
    • In which style will this piece be performed? (Will it be be set in a certain time period? Will the actors be using realism? Or another style of performance--mask? puppetry? physical theatre?)
    • Where will the play be performed? What type of seating will be used? Why?
    • Who is the target audience?
It should be emphasized that you are not the designer, however, you are in charge of giving a clear vision which is supported through imagery and other visual research.

Format: You may use any format you feel best showcases what your vision may be, whether this is a Power Point, a poster or other method.

Time Limit: 5 minutes

Here is the rubric for the final presentation-->Director's Concept Presentation Rubric.

Presentations: Tuesday, April 17
