Anna Deveare Smith -- Notes From the Field

Anna Deveare Smith's "Notes From the Field: Doing Time in Education" uses Verbatim Theater to explore the school to prison pipeline in the US. She was inspired to tell this story after the killing of Freddie Gray.

• The Laramie Project – Moises Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theatre Project interviewed people in Laramie Wyoming after the murder of Matthew Shepard.
• Aftershocks, Paul Brown. This play is based on interviews of survivors of an earthquake and the effect of the disaster.
• Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 by Anna Deavere Smith. Based on interviews about the effects of the Rodney King trial and verdict.
• London Road, Alecky Blythe follows the impact of a string of murders in 2006 on the Ipswich Community.

Research and find two 2 Verbatim Theatre Practioners from the area you selected (South Africa, UK, Australia or the US). Watch a production or clips of the production & reflect on how the process. What impact might this have on your own theatre practice?
