Verbatim the whole time!

1) For homework, you were supposed to have marked your script with the annotations for the physical movement, gestures and facial expressions. Can you please take a picture of your script with the annotations and send it to me first thing?

2) Independent Practice-15 minutes. During this time, use headphones in to speak WITH your interviewer. Remember that you will be performing next class.

3) After 15 minutes, in your partnerships, please check your partner's annotations. Watch the video and examine where s/he has noted all of the physical movemetns, gestures and facial expressions. Take note of any discrepancies.

4) Rehearse together, as actor and director. You should perform the following types of rehearsals for EACH ACTOR. (2 - 20 minute rehearsals)

A) Do a complete RUN THROUGH. The actor should perform the entire piece from start to finish. During the performance, the director is taking notes. As this is a Verbatim piece, the director should be carefully scrutinizing how well the actor is able to convey the interviewee through his/her performance. After the actor has performed, the director should be able to give warm and cool feedback, keeping in mind that the cool feedback is aimed towards improving the performance.

B) STOP AND GO. The actor will perform until the director notices something that s/he needs to do differently. At that point, the director STOPS the actor and gives him/her the note. The actor tries it out until the director is fully satisfied. (If the director isn't satisfied, s/he should demonstrate or find another way for the actor to improve this part of the piece.) You begin again and continue until there is another area that needs work. This continues on until you have run the entire piece satisfactorily. As needed, you may need to check the video!

C) RUN THROUGH Again. This time your director will stay quiet until the end of the full performance. You won't be working through the piece any more, but the director should be able to give guidance as to where the actor needs to focus his/her attention for the next performance.  (It is helpful to use the rubric at this point.)

C/D) VIDEO RECORD your partner, so s/he can watch at home!

5) SWITCH Actors and Directors (20 minutes following the same schedule.)

6) Individual Feedback -- Please leave a comment down below explaining how these rehearsal went for you, both as a director and actor. What are the areas you need to work on for your final performance? What ways do you plan on honing your work before next class? What costume/prop will you be wearing? (Use the rubric to focus your efforts!)

7) Practice at home and be ready for our performance on Thursday!! (Summative!)

8) If everyone has done a great job throughout the class, you can play "Handful of Scenes" as a group!

Remember -- Performance next Wednesay!
