What a great experience to have AMDA (The American Musical and Dramatic Academy) in our class today! Please take a moment to reflect on the experience, along with noting any big realizations / observations you made in the class. (Comment below!)
I thought it was a very interesting and fun experience to have a musical workshop with the AMDA representatives, since never in my life had I dreamed of doing something like that. I also thought it was very interesting how they said there were specific techniques that you use that will make you sound good regardless of whether you are good at singing or not. I also saw how they could comprehend the nervousness the class feels in a situation like that and it gave me hope for the future when auditioning.
AMDA coming to graded was an amazing experience! The workshop was very cool and it was interesting to see what the it could actually look like in college. Unfortunately, my anxiety took a toll on me. You see, I'm an extremely shy and private person and feel comfortable only in specific scenarios. When they asked me to sing I got super anxious and nervous because yes, I do know how to sing and I do it well and no, no one knows I sing or has ever heard me sing except my mom, grandma and sister. But overall. It was awesome and I'm grateful they believed in me even though I was extremely anxious! :)
My experience with AMDA was not what I expected. I thought that we were going to dance and include a lot more movement. I enjoyed singing and learning about a new musical but most of all I enjoyed having the experience of talking to people who are professionals in their field, not only in teaching but performing in musicals and writing for very well known shows.
This was a eye opening experience, I always thought musical theatre took years and years to be on a professional level. When AMDA came and told us how simple it can be to do musical theatre, there was no secret to success. I never expected to be interested in musicals, they always seen to be done with experts but truly, it's just yelling with rhythm. With this mind set, anything can be within reach.
I thought it was good advice to take the lyrics of the song and understand/interpret the words (within the context of the show) first and then learn the music. Also, I thought it was interesting to take the beats of the song and turn them into an opportunity for an acting change
My experiece with AMDA was very different than wat I expected, considering that I was not aware that we had to sing. However, I really enjoyed the experience, for I learned that singing is very similar to speaking, and that I should not be scared to try to sing. In conclusion it was a very enlightening experience
It was good to learn reading and understanding the lyrics first, and than putting that to familiarized melody. But as we didn't have much time, I think we didn't manage doing some actual movements and practices , as a workshop. Also unfortunately, I was feeling sick and had a sore throat, so I couldn't 100% enjoy singing.
