Research Presentation Reflections

Reflecting on the past year's work, I realized:

* Students need the feedback that they receive from me.

*It's essential that students understand that they will do better with feedback.

*Many students spend too much time on A1.

*Students must practice AND time their presentation

*It's important to keep your work focused on the convention. Don't try to do too much!

*Students need to practice speaking formally and referencing experts, texts and images.

*How you applied the convention to the The Moment of Theatre needs to be fully explained AND THEN demonstrated.

*Many students don't go deep enough in reflecting on their learning, thinking back to particular shows where this training could have been helpful.

*The final piece--comparison to another Theatre Tradition--is often left behind.

Stronger Presentations:
  • Reference the criteria in the rubric they are addressing when they address it in the presentation
  • Make specific references to the sources throughout their presentation
  • Use a variety of sources (not just internet)
  • Use the entire 15 minutes
  • Focused on one convention
  • Explain the process of exploration (rather than just listing activities, include how you grew and developed as a performer)
  • Explain the process of applying the convention to the the MOT
  • Had MOT were 45 seconds (minimum) or longer to show depth of understanding
  • The CONVENTION not the tradition is compared in the final strand (D2)
