Preliminary Research -- Director's Alive!

For our next unit, we will be exploring the theories and practices of some of the great theatrical Theorists. For preparation for this, you will need to learn a bit more about your theorists: Your preliminary research should focus on the following items.

Theatre in Context -- In what context did this person practice theatre? (Where ? When? What type of theatre was being practiced at the time?)

Theatre in Process -- What are some of the main beliefs that this theorist held about theatre? What exercises did the theorist do in order to invoke this theory?

For next class, you should have at least 2-3 sources with organized notes (on a Google Doc -- linked here in the comments). We will revise the work for the specific needs after next class. Be sure to have a few DIRECT QUOTES from the theorist! As always, keep track of your sources.

Sources for Material:

  • Use reputable sources (check along the side edge of Vibrant Voices, Digital Theatre Plus, National Theatre, etc.)
  • No PREZI or WIKIPEDIA!

  2. Bertolt Brecht -- Camila
  3. Katie Mitchell -- Liz
  4. Antonin Artaud -- Xandao
