ReplyDeleteI learned that Artaud founded the influential avant garde theater, the theater of cruelty, and he thinks theater is a powerful tool for exploring and exposing society’s ills. I appreciate how different it is from all the other styles picked by us. I imagine seeing this style in any play. Artaud's work can be translated into anything if it is done correctly.
ReplyDeleteI liked to see how much more expressive Artaud's method is than what I initially imagined, as after our workshop I realized it is much hard to bring out a "primal" side in front of an audience. I think even though it sounds simplistic, this theatre concept might be one of the hardest ones to apply to a piece, as it requires a lot of work and engagement from each actor. I imagine this style can be used in a lot of period plays that portray themes related to war, as the feeling of the fight is better conveyed through sound and expressions from actors, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the approach to the work shop as well as the push to go bigger. The reasoning of the why theatre must be used as an outlet I could see and understand in other contexts and not only Arteaud, so it is something Id like to take onto my own work.
