Workshop participants:
Write a reflection on the Mitchell's workshop. What did you enjoy about the workshop? What is your take-away? What did you learn about her style of theatre? What do you appreciate about this style of theatre? How can you imagine using this style of theatre in the future? (Even if you didn't love it, think about a possible application!)
Katie Mitchell is a very interesting director. Her work with shadows and making an image out of completely unusual things is really innovative and interesting. I really appreciate the use of projections and color in her work. I imagine using this in a future production in our school. (hint hint) It would be an interesting way to innovate the setting and wow the audience.
ReplyDeleteIt was enjoyable to perform different shadow silhouettes on different colors of lights. I realized that the images that we were making are associated with our own interpretation of that specific color. Also, it was interesting how Mitchell was questioning what would be the general understanding of that color, which shows that she pursues realism and naturalism as her style of theatre. I also liked the fact how her works show a strong characteristic of feminism. I would incorporate her idea of multimedia to our text; starting the scene with the shadow play (actors only showing their silhouettes) and later exposing themselves to the audience as well as adding projections with consideration of its color and shape.
ReplyDeleteI thought that the different ways a scene can be portrayed were interesting, as each of us did something while the others had a different idea on what we were trying to represent. I thought Mitchell's modern twist to some parts of Stanislavski's methods were very fun to experiment with, as it made me feel more connected to what I tried to act out, without necessarily being completely traditional about how I'm portraying it. I believe the use of this in a future play would be very interesting, as we normally see projections and lights as additions to the set, while these complement to what the actors on stage are doing.
